These will be among the largest hotels in Cambodia by room count, marking a major milestone in Hotel101’s global expansion strategy to operate one million rooms across 100 countries.
Why it matters
Scale: Each project will feature nearly 700 standardized Hotel101 “HappyRooms,” making them among the country’s largest hotels.
Timing: Cambodia welcomed 6.7 million international visitors in 2024, with arrivals expected to rise further with the opening of the Techo International Airport (KTI) in September 2025.
Global growth: The two projects form part of Hotel101’s international rollout, which already includes hotels under development in Japan, Spain, and the U.S.
Economic impact: Together, the Cambodian projects are projected to generate $109.55 million (₱6.3 billion) in sales revenue once fully sold.
The projects
Hotel101–Phnom Penh
Located in Tonlé Bassac, a vibrant riverfront hub near Aeon Mall 1 and the Independence Monument.
About 700 rooms across a 2,033 sqm prime site.
Features: swimming pool, fitness gym, all-day dining, business center, and commercial spaces.
Positioned to capture both business and leisure travelers in Cambodia’s economic capital.
Hotel101–Sihanoukville
Rising on 4,623 sqm of land in the $16 billion Bay of Lights master development by Canopy Sands.
About 680 rooms, making it the largest hotel in Sihanoukville.
Located beside the planned international convention center and 5 minutes from Sihanoukville Airport.
Complements existing global hotel brands like Accor’s Novotel and Wyndham.
Expansion beyond borders
The Cambodian ventures build on Hotel101’s earlier overseas projects in:
Niseko, Japan (482 rooms)
Madrid, Spain (680 rooms)
Los Angeles, USA (about 622 rooms)
This expansion underscores Hotel101’s asset-light, prop-tech model, which allows rapid scaling by standardizing its “HappyRoom” units and selling them under a hassle-free hotel unit ownership program.
Strategic partnership
By partnering with Canopy Sands Development, Hotel101 gains access to prime land, established networks, and local expertise in Cambodia.
The projects are set to strengthen Cambodia’s hospitality sector, attract foreign investment, create jobs, and elevate the country’s standing as a global tourism destination.
Bigger picture for the Philippines
DoubleDragon, Hotel101’s parent company, sees the brand’s global rollout as a future generator of U.S. dollar inflows for the Philippine economy.
“Hotel101 is a unique Filipino-grown concept with a business model that is exportable worldwide. As it expands, it carries with it the grit and perseverance of our team—and hopefully, a pinch of pride for our fellow Filipinos,” the DoubleDragon team shared.
What’s next
Both Cambodian hotels are targeted for completion by 2028. As construction begins, Hotel101 is steadily building toward its long-term vision: a truly global brand with a million rooms across continents. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
