Gen 8 Zobels rise to key roles in Ayala, PH’s oldest conglomerate

How has the country’s oldest conglomerate endured for nearly two centuries?

At Ayala Corp., deliberate succession planning ensures smooth leadership transitions that drive long-term growth.

Now, as it prepares for its next phase, eighth-generation Zobel family members and a new wave of professionals are stepping up to lead.

Mariana Beatriz E. Zobel de Ayala and Mark Robert H. Uy have been promoted to managing directors, while Jaime Alfonso E. Zobel de Ayala and Jaime Z. Urquijo take on roles as executive directors.

Ayala president and CEO Cezar P. Consing announced the promotions on Monday.

Ayala at its best

“Each of our senior promotees represents Ayala at its best—purposeful, forward-looking, professional, engaged. They will help make for an even better Ayala as we look ahead to completing two centuries of building businesses that enable people to thrive,” Consing said.

Driving growth in strategic areas

Ayala is future-proofing its business by reinventing key sectors, optimizing its portfolio, strengthening governance, and embracing new industries.

Mariana will lead the reinvention of Ayala Land’s leasing business, reshaping flagship malls, hospitality, and office spaces for a changing workplace landscape. Uy will refine Ayala’s business portfolio, ensuring a sharper, more valuable, yet still diversified approach.

Jaime Alfonso will uphold Ayala’s strong governance standards while spearheading the expansion of its new energy vehicle (NEV) platform, ACMobility. Jaime Urquijo will drive the internal transformation of Ayala Corporation, unlocking synergies between the holding company and its subsidiaries.

Smooth leadership transition

“Over its 191 years, Ayala has demonstrated a history of smooth leadership transitions anchored on thoughtful succession planning,” said Francisco Romero Milán, chief human resources officer of Ayala.

“The promotions of these four leaders are part of a deliberate, longer-term succession plan being implemented across the group,” he added.
