  • GCash is waiving select transaction fees for overseas Filipinos in the Middle East.
  • The waiver covers bank transfers, bill payments, and mobile load purchases via GCash Overseas.
  • The move aims to help Filipinos stay financially connected with families in the Philippines amid ongoing regional developments.

Digital wallet operator GCash is waiving transaction fees for overseas Filipinos using its platform in several Middle Eastern countries, offering temporary relief as developments in the region raise concerns for Filipino workers abroad.

The initiative covers GCash Overseas users in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Eligible transactions include bank transfers, bill payments, and mobile load purchases conducted through the GCash app.

Why it matters

Overseas Filipinos in the Middle East play a key role in supporting households in the Philippines through remittances and regular digital payments. By removing transaction costs, GCash aims to help users maintain financial support for their families without additional fees during a period of uncertainty.

The effort also supports the Philippine government’s continuing push to prioritize the safety and welfare of overseas Filipinos working in the region.

How it works

Instead of removing fees at the point of transaction, GCash will return eligible charges through in-app cashback. No registration is required.

Users who complete qualified transactions will automatically receive the corresponding fee amount credited back to their GCash accounts. They will also receive an in-app notification confirming that the cashback has been successfully credited.

Timeline

Transactions made from March 4 to March 10 will have the fees returned on March 20. Meanwhile, transactions completed from March 11 to March 14 will receive cashback credits on March 27.

Between the linesDetails of the fee waiver program were outlined in a company release, which said the move is meant to help overseas Filipinos remain connected with loved ones and receive financial assistance without additional costs.

What’s next

GCash said it will continue monitoring developments in the Middle East and assess whether the financial relief measures need to be extended.

Filipinos requiring urgent assistance are advised to coordinate with the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate, or contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Migrant Workers through their official hotlines and channels for emergency support. — Princess Daisy C.
