BPI, Tambunting expand community banking access nationwide

Insider Spotlight

  • BPI adds Tambunting Pawnshop to its Agency Banking network
  • More than 100 Tambunting branches now offer select BPI services
  • Partnership strengthens financial inclusion in underserved communities

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is expanding access to financial services through a partnership with Tambunting Pawnshop, bringing essential banking solutions closer to underserved and community-based markets across the Philippines.

Through BPI Agency Banking, Tambunting Pawnshop has joined the growing network of May BPI Dito partner stores, enabling customers to access select BPI services within their neighborhood branches.

Since February 2026, customers have been able to apply for BPI products, deposit to and withdraw funds from their BPI accounts, and cash out transactions at more than 100 Tambunting Pawnshop Kahera ng Bayan branches.

By bringing financial services closer to where people live and work, the partnership helps address common barriers to banking access, particularly in areas with limited access to traditional bank branches.

Why it matters

BPI continues to expand its agency banking footprint as part of its broader financial inclusion strategy, leveraging community-based partners to reach more Filipinos with accessible banking services.

“We have always believed that the Agency Banking model is a powerful driver of financial inclusion. Our approach has been deliberate and strategic—ensuring that the right products are delivered through the right partners to truly serve our communities,” BPI president and CEO TG Limcaoco said in a statement.

“We are proud to welcome Tambunting Pawnshop as one of our key partners, and together, we are committed to accelerating access to inclusive financial services and expanding opportunities for Filipinos across the nation,” Limcaoco added.

Tambunting Pawnshop, one of the country's most established financial service providers, said the collaboration supports its goal of strengthening community access to formal financial services while providing added convenience to customers.

The bigger picture

“For over 140 years, Tambunting has grown alongside the Filipino people and earned their trust. Through this partnership with BPI, we can help more communities gain easier access to secure and reliable banking services,” Tambunting Pawnshop president and CEO Miguel Tambunting said.

The collaboration reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to financial inclusion and community empowerment.

By combining BPI’s banking capabilities with Tambunting Pawnshop’s branch network, the partnership creates more accessible and convenient financial touchpoints for Filipinos who rely on neighborhood-based services.
