In a statement, the PLDT group-controlled firm said this new co-branded card with Landers Superstore provides customers with a fully digital application process and substantial rewards, filling a gap in the Philippine credit card market.
Maya said the streamlined digital application addresses a common barrier in credit accessibility.
A 2021 Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas survey showed that more than half of Filipino adults found traditional credit card applications challenging, and by 2023, only 15 percent held a credit card.
Maya’s approach allows users to apply via the app, where approved applicants can immediately use a virtual card for online transactions, the firm said.
The Landers Cashback Everywhere card is targeted at younger Filipinos, with millennials making up over half of the cardholders. Additionally, Gen Z clients account for 15 percent of the base, a significant portion given their general lack of credit history. Maya also reported that 61 percent of cardholders reside outside Metro Manila, and 42 percent were previously unbanked.
“Our entry into credit cards with the Landers Cashback Everywhere is a major milestone for Maya,” Maya Group president and Maya Bank co-founder Shailesh Baidwan said. “We continue to launch new products to become a deeper part of our customers’ daily lives—from routine purchases to helping them meet larger financial goals.”
