The port operator said it has completed structural works on the second and third 42.5-meter segments of Pier 14 ahead of schedule, reinforcing the Terminal 1 wharf and improving structural integrity and seismic resilience.
“The program is designed to ensure NorthPort remains capable of supporting long-term domestic trade growth while maintaining safe and reliable operations,” the company said in a statement on Monday.
As of February, works have shifted to the fourth and final 52.5-meter segment of the pier.
Current activities include resurfacing the remaining deck area, repairing above-deck damage, and upgrading the fender system from 700 mm to 1,000 mm cell fenders to allow safer vessel berthing.
The upgrades are being carried out in parallel with port operations to minimize disruption to cargo movement.
NorthPort said the works form part of a three-year terminal upgrade program aimed at strengthening infrastructure at the country’s largest domestic cargo terminal.
