Tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.’s International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) is strengthening Mexico’s trade gateway as its Contecon Manzanillo terminal added a new Asia–South America shipping link.

WAN HAI Lines’ Asia–South America West Coast 2 (WSA2) service, jointly operated with Evergreen, COSCO and others, made its first call on August 11, connecting major Asian ports to Latin America’s west coast.

“The arrival of the WSA2 service to our terminal is another milestone in our expansion strategy and consolidation as a key logistics hub for international trade. This project is part of the terminal’s growth, which began at the end of 2022, with the clear goal of completion in 2026,” José Antonio Contreras, Contecon Manzanillo CEO, said in a statement.

The service moved to Contecon after the terminal deployed Latin America’s largest ship-to-shore cranes and expanded its capacity, boosting speed and efficiency.

These upgrades allow Contecon to handle next-generation vessels while offering lower costs and more reliable connections for shipping lines.
