Razon-led Contecon Guayaquil has secured a major trade win with the launch of COSCO Shipping’s WSA5 service, Ecuador’s first direct shipping connection to Asia via Peru’s Port of Chancay.

This new route slashes shipping time to Shanghai to just 27 days, making Ecuadorian exports like bananas and shrimp more competitive in Asia.

By adding Guayaquil to its rotation, COSCO Shipping reinforces the port’s role as a key trade hub, linking Ecuador directly to major Chinese ports like Shanghai, Dalian, Ningbo, and Qingdao. The service also stops in Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, strengthening Latin America-Asia trade ties.

his development aligns with Ecuador’s Free Trade Agreement with China, which is expected to drive export growth. With faster, more cost-efficient transport, Ecuadorian businesses now have better access to one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

Contecon Guayaquil’s growing importance in global logistics highlights ICTSI’s expanding footprint in Latin America.
