JPMorganChase is betting on that shift, rolling out a mentorship program aimed at preparing senior high school students for sustainability-related careers.
The initiative trained about 1,000 students in Metro Manila and Cebu on green skills and communications, with 100 now developing sustainability-focused capstone projects under volunteer mentors.
The program is part of the bank’s Career Connect initiative implemented locally with Junior Achievement of the Philippines and approved by the Department of Education.
Why green jobs matter
Demand for green skills is rising globally as economies transition toward cleaner energy and more sustainable industries.
LinkedIn’s 2023 Global Green Skills Report showed demand for green capabilities is growing faster than supply, making the field increasingly resilient during economic downturns.
In the Philippines, policies such as the Green Jobs Act of 2016 could help create up to 3.5 million green jobs by 2030, according to the Philippine Institute for Development Studies.
With more than 20,000 employees in Manila and Cebu, JPMorganChase’s local capability center is also helping build a pipeline of future talent for industries tied to sustainability and energy transition.
