The partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Sept. 10, 2024, aims to provide high-speed internet and essential technologies to MSMEs, particularly in underserved and remote communities, the DTI said in a statement.
Under the MOU, the trade department will lead the planning, promotion, and implementation of digital initiatives tailored to MSMEs. These efforts include training programs, workshops, and seminars to help businesses adopt new technologies and strategies.
Converge ICT Solutions Inc. will leverage its extensive fiber optic network to offer high-speed internet connectivity to MSMEs. In addition, the company will develop cost-effective products and services specifically designed for the needs of MSMEs.
Qualified MSMEs will have internet services installed within three business days after completing application requirements, depending on network availability and port capacity.
During the signing ceremony, Trade and Industry Acting Secretary Cristina A. Roque emphasized the critical role of digitalization in MSME development and reaffirmed the department's commitment to empowering businesses in the digital age.
"Digitalization is at the heart of our five-point agenda, and we are dedicated to providing MSMEs with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital age," said Roque.
“Aligned with the vision of the ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ we will ensure that every MSME, regardless of its size or location, has the opportunity to harness the power of digital technology and contribute to the prosperity of our nation.”
Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy underscored his company's dedication to supporting businesses, reiterating their commitment to leaving no one behind, particularly the MSME sector, which comprises 99.5 percent of business enterprises in the country.
Complementing this partnership, the DTI also launched the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Roadmap 2.0 and the country’s first Center for AI Research, aimed at enhancing research, development, and digital transformation efforts nationwide.
These initiatives align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to build a robust, connected, and digitally empowered workforce and business environment, the DTI said.
