Al Panlilio elected MAP president for 2025, leading innovation and governance

Alfredo “Al” Panlilio, a seasoned executive with extensive leadership experience across the telecommunications, energy, and sports sectors, has been elected as the 77th President of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) for 2025.

Panlilio, who currently chairs Maya Bank and serves as a director of PLDT and Smart, takes on this new role with a vision to drive innovation and sustainable governance.

Panlilio is no stranger to leadership, having served as president and CEO of PLDT from 2021 to 2023 and Smart Communications from 2019 to 2023. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing the Philippines’ digital transformation, a mission he continues to support as a founding member of the Private Sector Advisory Council’s (PSAC) digital infrastructure pillar.

His corporate journey also includes leadership roles at the Manila Electric Co., where he held several key positions, including senior vice president and head of customer retail services and corporate communications. Panlilio also chaired Radius Telecoms, e-Meralco Ventures, and various renewable energy ventures under the Meralco Group.

Outside the corporate sphere, Panlilio is a staunch advocate for sports as a tool for nation-building. He serves as president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), first vice president of the Philippine Olympic Committee, and chair of the National Golf Association of the Philippines. His leadership extended to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, where he chaired the Philippine local organizing committee.

Panlilio holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Computer Information Systems) from San Francisco State University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Joining Panlilio on the MAP 2025 Board of Governors are prominent industry leaders, including Mike Toledo of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. as vice president, Wilson Tan of SGV & Co. as treasurer, Paolo Borromeo of AC Health as assistant treasurer, and Gil Genio of GT Capital Holdings as secretary.

The board also features Rene Almendras of Ayala Corp., Noel Bonoan of KPMG R. G. Manabat & Co., Rex Drilon of the Center for Excellence in Governance, and Maan Hontiveros of CEO Advisors. — Ed: DLL
