AIC completes key upgrades at Bohol-Panglao, Laguindingan airports

Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, has completed key infrastructure improvements at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) to strengthen operational reliability at two of the country’s busiest regional gateways.

The upgrades were carried out in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

AIC Airports has been managing both BPIA and LIA since mid-2025 under a multiyear concession agreement with the government.

The recent round of upgrades includes:

  • Elevator repairs to improve access for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families with children
  • Assessment and servicing of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems, ensuring airport operations continue smoothly during power outages
  • Baggage carousel servicing to reduce waiting times at arrivals

Why it matters

The upgrades represent some of the earliest visible outcomes of DOTr and CAAP’s renewed public–private partnership strategy to modernize provincial airports.

The initiative highlights how government–private sector collaboration can accelerate improvements in safety, convenience, and service quality—directly benefiting passengers, airport personnel, and host communities.

The big picture

AIC Airports is building a nationwide network of modern, world-class airports expected to handle around 16 million passengers by year-end, or more than 20 percent of the country’s total passenger traffic. Each airport under its management plays a strategic role in national connectivity:

  • Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA): the Connectivity Hub, envisioned as the Philippines’ main tourism transfer hub.
  • BPIA: the Leisure Hub, gateway to UNESCO Global Geopark tourism in Bohol.
  • LIA: the Service Hub, driving business and logistics connectivity in Mindanao.
