Larger pipes, wider coverage
The P2.55-billion project involves replacing around three kilometers of existing 1,350-millimeter pipelines along the Philippine National Railways (PNR) alignment near Paco–Sta. Mesa Road with a new 2,000-millimeter mainline spanning a total of eight kilometers.
To improve accessibility and resilience, the upgraded pipeline will be relocated to G. Tuazon Street, Lacson Avenue, Quirino Avenue, and Osmeña Highway, covering the stretch from V.G. Cruz to San Andres.
Boosting supply and water pressure
Once completed by the third quarter of 2027, the project is expected to deliver a designed recovery potential of up to 18 million liters per day (MLD)—enough to meet the average daily water needs of around 140,000 Manila residents.
The upgrade will also significantly improve water pressure in 29 barangays, increasing levels from seven pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi.
This improvement will allow water to reach up to the third floor of buildings without the need for booster pumps, benefiting households and small businesses.
Reducing losses, improving distribution
Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said the project underscores the company’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure.
“Through this project, we’re investing in higher-capacity infrastructure intended to enhance water distribution in Manila. By reducing losses from leaks and illegal connections, more clean water can reach households that need it,” Fernandez said.
Part of NRW reduction drive
The initiative forms part of Maynilad’s non-revenue water (NRW) management program, which includes leak detection and repair, pressure management, meter replacement, and anti-pilferage efforts across the West Zone. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
