Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) has added three new quay cranes, bringing its fleet to 18, the largest in the Philippines, and boosting its capacity and efficiency.
The new cranes will help manage peak times and high cargo volumes at MICT, operated by tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.’s International Container Terminal Services Inc.
“The acquisition of these new quay cranes represents a significant step forward to MICT’s expansion and modernization. Their addition enables us to handle cargo loads more efficiently, leading to faster vessel turnaround times and better operations overall,” said Christian Lozano, MICT chief operating officer.
MICT has also started expanding Berth 8, adding a 300-meter wharf and a 10-hectare container yard, increasing capacity by 200,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 3.5 million TEUs.
The new cranes for Berth 8 are scheduled to arrive in 2027.
