PH private sector council calls for rapid network expansion, AI integration

The Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) – Digital Infrastructure is pushing for faster telecom expansion through initiatives like JuanSIM ng Bayan and a national artificial intelligence (AI) strategy to bridge the digital gap, especially in remote areas.

This is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s goal of nationwide digital access through strategic connectivity investments.

JuanSIM ng Bayan aims to provide subsidized SIM cards and internet to 510 sites by 2025, with the Department of Education (DepEd) overseeing distribution.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will support the rollout by enhancing rural telecom systems.

PSAC is also working with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to develop AI-driven innovation and workforce readiness programs.

“The President’s direct engagement in refining policies into practical solutions underscores the urgent need to expand bandwidth for students and families in remote areas while keeping pace with AI advancements,” said Myla Villanueva, PSAC Digital Infrastructure lead and MDI Group Holdings Inc. chair.

“PSAC – Digital Infrastructure looks forward to working with DICT Secretary Ivan Uy, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, and NEDA Secretary Arsi Balisacan to develop national strategies and upskill the workforce while ensuring a balanced approach to innovation, safety, and public trust,” she added.
