The P2.5-million project involves a 33-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar facility to energize GTWC’s water pump in Cavite that is designed to generate around 45,350 kWh of clean energy annually, MSpectrum said in a statement.
GTWC is the first in the area to power its water pumps with solar panels.
“We proudly celebrate the ceremonial turnover of the 33-kWp solar power generating system that will help GTWC achieve their sustainability goals and realize the savings from their electricity bill,” MSpectrum COO Patrick T. Panlilio said.
Through this facility, GTWC will be able to reduce its carbon footprint by some 32.3 metric tons, translating to more than 1,400 trees planted and more than 79,000 kilometers reduced in vehicle travel per year. The project will also allow GTWC to generate energy savings with the operation of the solar project.
GTWC, a trusted water utility since 1995, serves General Trias City, Naic, and Alfonso in Cavite, as well as areas in Laguna, Batangas, and Bulacan.
The solar rooftop facility marks the beginning of a strategic and long-term partnership between One Meralco Group and GTWC, MSpectrum said.
With its eight years in the industry, the Meralco unit has already installed more than 80 megawatts (MW) of solar rooftop projects, estimated to power about 40,000 households. --Ed: CSN
