Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) has retained its position as the Philippines’ Strongest Bank for the sixth consecutive year, becoming the only Philippine lender to maintain the distinction for six straight years.

The recognition from Singapore-based financial research organization The Asian Banker reflects the bank's sustained financial performance, asset quality and risk management amid changing economic conditions.

The award forms part of The Asian Banker's annual assessment of the world's 1,000 largest and strongest financial institutions.

Strength through consistency

Metrobank president Fabian Dee attributed the recognition to customer confidence, employee commitment and the bank's ability to deliver financial services through varying market conditions.

"As we look ahead, we will continue to strengthen our capabilities, manage risks prudently, and create long-term value for all our stakeholders," Dee said in a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026.

The rankings evaluate financial performance, balance sheet strength, asset quality, liquidity and risk management. An independent panel comprising central bankers, financial experts and research professionals reviews institutional performance.

Beyond commercial banking

The latest recognition follows other awards received by Metrobank in 2026, including the Cesar E.A. Virata Award, the highest distinction at the Philippine Dealing System Annual Awards.

The lender also secured leading rankings in local currency and G3 bond categories at the Asset Benchmark Research Awards, reflecting its presence in Philippine capital markets.
