This recognition celebrates Maynilad’s Plant for Life Program (PLP), a large-scale reforestation initiative aimed at restoring critical watersheds that supply water to Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.
Launched to address deforestation and promote sustainable practices, the Plant for Life Program engages local volunteers, organizations, and the indigenous Dumagat community.
The Dumagat people, who reside in the Ipo watershed, maintain a tree nursery as an alternative livelihood, shifting away from traditional slash-and-burn methods.
To date, PLP has planted over one million trees, helping Maynilad cut its annual carbon emissions by about 33,000 tons and supporting its climate action commitments. “We are grateful for this recognition, which motivates us to continue protecting our environment for future generations,” said Atty. Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad’s chief sustainability officer.
The award was organized by IABC Philippines to honor companies excelling in People, Planet, and Prosperity through sustainable initiatives.
