This initiative, according to Grab Philippines, underscores the platforms' commitment to drivers' welfare and sets a new benchmark for gig economy participants in the country.
The collaboration offers free life insurance policies to top-performing drivers, riders, and delivery partners, supplementing the existing coverage provided during ride bookings and deliveries.
This program is a key feature of Grab’s Ka-Grab Rewards and Move It’s Ka-Move It Rewards, ensuring financial security for participants and their families.
Grab Philippines country head Ronald Roda highlighted the company’s vision for driver-partner protection: “We believe that the hardworking individuals who move our cities forward deserve more than just a livelihood—they deserve security, protection, and peace of mind. Through this partnership, we are strengthening the gig economy by ensuring that our driver-partners receive fair recognition for their contributions while also having access to protections that help them navigate life’s uncertainties.”
Grab pioneered the offering of free life insurance for driver- and delivery-partners in the Philippines, leading the way since 2016 as the first on-demand service platform to do so. In 2023, Move It extended similar benefits through its Ka-Move It Rewards program.
Among the active beneficiaries is Catherine Lorenzo, a Move It rider-partner and solo parent. She acknowledges the program’s significance: “Bilang isang solo parent, mahalaga na kami ay hindi lamang kumikita nang sapat, kundi mayroon din kaming financial protection para sa aming pamilya sa oras ng pangangailangan.” (As a solo parent, it is important not only to earn enough but also to have financial protection for my family in times of need.)
With insurance policies valued up to P1 million, the coverage includes life insurance, accidental insurance, disability protection, and terminal illness support. This ensures a safety net for tens of thousands of driver-partners on Grab and Move It’s platforms.
AXA Philippines CEO Ayman Kandil emphasized the importance of financial resilience for gig workers: “At AXA Philippines, we believe that financial protection should be accessible to everyone, especially the hardworking Grab and Move It driver-partners who keep our cities moving. Through this partnership, we are empowering individuals with security, stability, and confidence to build a better future.”
This collaboration with AXA and Philinsure reinforces the evolving nature of platform-based work—making it not only flexible but also secure, Grab Philippines said.
“By working with industry leaders like AXA, we are not just supporting livelihoods—we are helping build a more sustainable and secure future for our driver-partners in the Philippines,” according to Roda. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
