Insider Spotlight

  • BPI Freelancer offers affordable personal accident insurance to freelancers and self-employed Filipinos
  • Plans start at P499/year, with optional coverage for dependents or small groups
  • Key benefits: accidental death or disability coverage, daily cash allowance, utility bills assistance, and motorcycle accident protection

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and BPI MS Insurance have launched BPI Freelancer, a personal accident insurance product designed specifically to address the protection gaps faced by the country’s growing freelance and self-employed workforce.

As millions of Filipinos shift to gig work and entrepreneurial ventures, many operate without the health and accident coverage typically enjoyed by regular employees. BPI Freelancer fills that gap with a flexible and budget-friendly safety net tailored to modern independent workers.

What they're saying

“As more Filipinos carve their own path in the freelance and entrepreneurial space, BPI and BPI MS are leading the way in crafting inclusive financial solutions for this new generation of workers,” said Noriyuki Kobayashi, president and CEO of BPI MS Insurance.

“BPI Freelancer represents our deep understanding of modern Filipino needs and our commitment to helping them thrive.”

“At BPI, building a better Philippines means empowering every Filipino, no matter their employment status,” added Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go, head of consumer banking at BPI.

“With nearly 13 million freelancers shaping our economy, we are proud to introduce an insurance product designed specifically for the modern Filipino freelancer—a reliable safety net and trusted partner to help them pursue their passions with confidence and peace of mind.”

The details

The plan is open to Filipinos aged 18 to 65 and offers three tiers: Basic (P499/year), Prime (P699/year) and Elite (P1,099/year). Policyholders can also extend coverage to up to four dependents or enroll a group of up to five individuals without including themselves.

Benefits include a lump-sum cash benefit for accidental death or permanent disability, P1,000 per day daily cash allowance for up to 10 days of hospitalization, utility bills assistance up to P20,000, and motorcycle accident coverage. Customers can also enable auto-renewal for uninterrupted protection.

BPI Freelancer is now available nationwide through BPI MS channels, select BPI branches, partner stores and digital platforms, providing an accessible safety net for freelancers and self-employed professionals.  —Ed: Vanessa Hidalgo
