iCare taps AXA to strengthen employee protection plans

iCare HMO has partnered with AXA Philippines to integrate group term insurance into select corporate HMO plans, offering employees broader protection while helping companies manage rising healthcare costs.

Employers are under growing pressure to strengthen employee benefits as healthcare expenses climb and workers demand more comprehensive protection, AXA Philippines said in a press statement.

The big picture

Under the partnership, AXA Philippines will provide employer-sponsored life insurance coverage for death, permanent disability, and terminal illness to eligible employees enrolled in participating iCare corporate HMO plans.

The coverage is embedded within existing healthcare benefits, allowing companies to expand employee protection without adding administrative complexity.

For employees, the integration offers financial security for their families beyond medical coverage alone.

What they’re saying

“HR leaders today are navigating a delicate balance between protecting people and maintaining sustainability,” Geronimo V. Francisco, president and CEO of iCare HMO, said in a company statement.

“Balancing care and cost is not merely a financial decision. It is a leadership responsibility,” he added, noting that the company aims to address medical inflation through affordable and sustainable healthcare solutions.

Between the lines

Healthcare-related expenses have consistently risen faster than general inflation in recent years, placing sustained pressure on corporate benefits budgets.

Even as overall inflation remains within the central bank’s target range, hospital and medical service costs continue to trend upward, prompting employers to rethink benefits strategies.

Many organizations are now seeking ways to provide deeper protection without significantly increasing costs.

By the numbers

iCare currently serves more than one million HMO members nationwide, supported by a network of over 2,000 hospitals and clinics and more than 50,000 accredited doctors.

The company said the partnership with AXA represents a strategic move toward stronger and more integrated workforce protection.

AXA Philippines president and CEO Ayman Kandil said the collaboration aligns with the insurer’s focus on expanding financial protection for Filipinos.

“Protection, trust, and our customers are at the heart of everything we do,” Kandil said. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to delivering meaningful solutions that give Filipinos the confidence to face life’s many risks.”
