Cebu Pacific opens jobs for displaced Lufthansa Technik workers

Insider Spotlight

  • Cebu Pacific and Aplus launched a career placement program for affected Lufthansa Technik Philippines employees.
  • The initiative targets licensed aircraft mechanics and aviation maintenance personnel.
  • Applicants may be reassigned to other roles depending on qualifications and operational needs.
  • The hiring effort comes as airlines compete for skilled aviation workers amid industry expansion.

Cebu Pacific and its aircraft maintenance unit Aviation Partnership Philippines (Aplus) have rolled out a career placement program aimed at absorbing workers affected by developments at Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP).

In a recruitment notice circulated online, the airline group said the initiative seeks to provide “career opportunities within Cebu Pacific and A+” for displaced LTP employees, particularly those with aviation maintenance and engineering backgrounds.

The online application form asked candidates to provide their preferred roles but noted that applicants may still be re-profiled for other positions “based on your skills and qualifications.”

The recruitment campaign specifically encouraged LTP-rated mechanics to prepare technical and licensing documents in advance to speed up authorization processing.

Required documents include a professional experience record from LTP Quality Management, an authorization certificate, an authorized personnel log reflecting at least 100 days within the last 24 months, copies of relevant technical training, and a valid Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines license.

Why it matters

The move signals Cebu Pacific’s attempt to tap an experienced aviation labor pool at a time when the airline industry continues to face shortages of skilled aircraft maintenance personnel globally.

Aircraft mechanics and licensed aviation engineers remain among the most in-demand workers in commercial aviation as airlines expand fleets and restore capacity following pandemic-era disruptions.

Cebu Pacific has been aggressively expanding both its route network and aircraft orders in recent years. The airline previously launched programs aimed at attracting overseas Filipino aviation professionals back to the country to support fleet growth and maintenance operations.

Aplus serves as Cebu Pacific’s maintenance arm, providing aircraft engineering, line maintenance, and technical support services for the airline’s operations. The company also supports third-party aviation clients.

The broader aviation sector has been grappling with talent retention challenges as experienced engineers and mechanics increasingly pursue opportunities overseas, where compensation packages are often higher.

By targeting displaced Lufthansa Technik Philippines personnel, Cebu Pacific gains access to a technically trained workforce already familiar with international aviation maintenance standards and certifications.

The recruitment drive also reflects intensifying competition among airlines and maintenance providers for qualified aviation professionals as Southeast Asia’s air travel recovery continues to accelerate.
