Airport operator, stakeholders delineate roles as All Saints Day travel surge looms

The operator the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) said on Monday that it has launched preparations to manage the anticipated surge of travelers passing through the Philippines’ busiest aviation gateway ahead of the peak travel season coinciding with All Saints’ Day.

In a statement on Oct. 28, the New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC) said it is coordinating with key stakeholders to streamline airport operations, enhance security, and ensure efficient traffic management.

The airport operator aims to deliver seamless services during this critical period by boosting coordination efforts and deploying additional manpower.

A vital component of NNIC’s strategy is close collaboration with government agencies, including the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP), and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Agencies like the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Bureau of Immigration (BI), and Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) will ensure efficient customs checks, quick immigration processing, and public health safety measures.

Airlines and service providers strengthen operations

NNIC has engaged with airline partners to encourage early opening of check-in counters, allowing passengers more time to process their tickets and avoid long queues. Additionally, the company is conducting a thorough review of ground handler resources to guarantee sufficient serviceable equipment for baggage and passenger handling during peak hours.

Talks are also underway with transportation providers to boost vehicle availability for easier airport access. Terminal 3 will open more parking spaces to address expected congestion, helping manage vehicular flow within the airport vicinity.

Defining stakeholder roles for efficiency

Effective airport operations require seamless cooperation among various stakeholders, each with distinct responsibilities:

NNIC: Oversee coordination, infrastructure management, and traffic operations at NAIA.

Airlines: Manage check-ins, baggage handling, and adherence to flight schedules.

Government agencies (MIAA, DOTr, PNP, MMDA): Handle security, emergency response, and traffic management.

Bureau of Immigration (BI): Speed up immigration clearance.

Bureau of Customs (BOC): Ensure smooth baggage inspections.

Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ): Conduct health screenings to protect public safety.

NNIC advised passengers to arrive early for their scheduled flights to allow enough time for security, check-in, and immigration procedures.

Staying updated on travel guidelines and cooperating with airport staff will also help ensure a hassle-free experience during the busy season, it said.
