Boomi is doubling down on application programming interface (APIs) as the backbone of enterprise AI, pitching them not just as integration tools but as the “control plane” for increasingly autonomous, agent-driven systems.
The company is leaning into a unified platform strategy to help firms manage sprawling hybrid environments while preparing for AI at scale.
That push comes as Boomi was named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide API Management 2026 Vendor Assessment, underscoring its traction in a market reshaped by AI adoption and rising complexity.
Why it matters
As enterprises deploy agentic AI, APIs are becoming mission-critical for secure, governed access to data and applications. Without strong API management, organizations risk fragmentation, security gaps, and “shadow APIs” that undermine compliance.
Boomi’s pitch centers on unifying these layers. Its platform integrates API management with iPaaS, AI services, and automation—reducing the need for multiple vendors while enabling APIs to be reused across systems and AI workflows.
What they’re saying
"As organizations accelerate their shift to becoming AI-driven enterprises, API management has become a strategic foundation for securely connecting applications, data, and AI workflows," Steve Lucas, chair and CEO at Boomi, said in a press statement on April 17, 2026.
“We see our recognition as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape for API Management as validation of our continued innovation and commitment to delivering a unified platform for data activation, including APIM.By enabling enterprises to govern their APIs as the control plane for AI, alongside integration and data, we are helping customers worldwide move faster, operate smarter, and innovate at scale," Lucas added.
Between the lines
IDC highlighted Boomi’s “AI-centric strategy,” particularly its ability to treat APIs as both the fuel and governance layer for AI systems—an approach that aligns with growing enterprise demand for secure AI orchestration.
The big picture
With over 30,000 customers, Boomi is betting that API governance—not just connectivity—will define the next phase of enterprise digital transformation, especially as AI agents become embedded in core operations. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
