Alternergy Holdings Corp., chaired by former energy secretary Vicente S. Pérez, has become the first publicly listed company on the Philippine Stock Exchange to receive the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Green Equity Label, marking a regulatory milestone for the renewable energy sector.

The SEC launched the Green Equity Label this year to identify companies whose revenues and expenses are primarily tied to environmentally sustainable activities. To qualify, at least half of a firm’s income and investments must come from green projects.

“Alternergy may well be the first listed Philippine company to obtain a Green Equity Label from the SEC,” said Investment & Capital Corp. of the Philippines president Manny Ocampo, who advised the company on its 2023 initial public offering.

An independent review by SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. verified that 100 percent of Alternergy’s revenues come from renewable sources and over 90 percent of its spending is devoted to wind, solar, hydro, and battery storage projects.

“We are delighted to be the recipient of the Philippine Green Equity Label from the SEC as a publicly listed company,” said Alternergy president Gerry P. Magbanua.

“Alternergy is a pure-play renewable energy developer, dedicated exclusively to clean power generation, which directly aligns with the requirements of the SEC certification,” he added.
