Among these facilities is the PLDT-Smart Integrated Operations Center (IOC) in Makati, a 24/7 command hub overseeing nationwide fixed and wireless network performance.
The other facilities include those in the cities of Antipolo, Calamba, Caloocan, Makati, Manila, Marikina, Parañaque, Pasig, Quezon, Taguig and Valenzuela.
Switching more sites
“We continue to invest in more renewables to power up our facilities, particularly in these key sites in Metro Manila. Recognizing the many benefits of RE, we are eyeing to switch more sites and further increase the share of renewables in our overall energy mix,” said Leo A. Gonzales, PLDT vice president and sector head for property and facilities.
The move is expected to generate annual savings of about ₱6 million and significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by nearly 21,000 tons in 2024 alone. This shift is part of the PLDT Group’s broader decarbonization roadmap, which aims to cut GHG emissions by 40 percent by 2030.
Beyond Metro Manila, PLDT and Smart are also transitioning key sites in Visayas and Mindanao to RE sources such as solar, geothermal, and wind.
Going beyond their roadmap, targets
These efforts are in line with the Paris Agreement’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050 and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly on climate action and sustainable infrastructure.
“We are keen to adopt more of these clean energy solutions to significantly lessen our dependence on fossil fuels and further integrate climate change mitigation measures into our day-to-day operations,” said PLDT first vice president, chief sustainability officer, and head of investor relations Melissa Vergel de Dios.
“Going beyond our own roadmap and targets, we recognize how these operational choices help make our planet more livable for present and future generations,” Vergel de Dios added.
