Under the agreement signed between the two firms, First Gen will supply 5,500 kilowatts (kW) of electricity sourced from geothermal energy. This supply will come from a geothermal power plant operated by First Gen’s renewable energy arm, Energy Development Corp. (EDC), located in Negros Oriental.
The renewable power will energize all four manufacturing facilities and a technology center operated by Sanyo Denki Philippines inside the Subic Technopark, part of the Subic Bay Special Economic and Freeport Zone. The initiative is aligned with the company’s long-term sustainability roadmap to shift all of its global production facilities to renewable energy.
“We are pleased to start our partnership with First Gen, which we believe is the best way to achieve our goal of using more renewable energy in our production,” said Hirokazu Takeuchi, president and CEO of Sanyo Denki Philippines, in a statement.
“This supports our commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and our responsibility to produce environmentally responsible products,” he added.
Beyond electricity supply, First Gen and its sister company, Pi Energy Inc., will provide a real-time energy monitoring system. This will allow Sanyo Denki to track its power usage, improve operational efficiency, and optimize energy costs.
Carlo Vega, chief engagement officer of First Gen, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Shifting a 24/7 operation to renewable energy and managing consumption effectively are key challenges in manufacturing. We’re proud to support Sanyo Denki in advancing toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.”
Founded in 2000, Sanyo Denki Philippines is the primary manufacturing hub for Sanyo Denki’s DC cooling fans and also produces power supply systems, photovoltaic inverters, and precision motor equipment. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
