DTI, Japan’s Rinna Co. unveil AI assistant for 24/7 public service

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japan-based Rinna Co. Ltd. on Monday, July 14, to launch Project TRINA — its first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered government assistant designed to streamline public services.

Why it matters:

Project TRINA (Trade and Industry Assistant) introduces a 24/7 conversational AI avatar on the DTI website. It aims to reduce the need for in-person visits or manual document searches, providing real-time support on trade, MSME development, investment policies, and consumer rights.

What they’re saying:

"With Project TRINA, we are introducing a new technology that allows people to access DTI services anytime, in a way that feels as natural as talking to a real person, breaking down barriers for users who may not be tech-savvy,” said Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque, who led the signing.

Details:

  • TRINA will be voice-enabled and able to simulate emotionally intelligent conversations in English and Tagalog.

  • It is built to support individuals with limited digital literacy by making online government access more intuitive.

  • The project reflects the Marcos administration’s push for tech-forward governance while prioritizing ethical AI use and data privacy.

What’s next:

DTI plans to equip its frontline offices with their own AI avatars capable of performing tasks such as license applications, business registrations, and consumer complaint filings.

The bottom line:

Project TRINA marks a major leap in how public services are delivered—efficient, inclusive, and AI-powered.

The MOU signing signals the start of DTI’s broader public engagement campaign to raise nationwide awareness about Project TRINA and its role in providing user-friendly government services. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
