Converge ICT eyes AI leadership in data centers with US tech deal

Fiber internet giant Converge ICT Solutions is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across its data centers, partnering with US-listed tech company Super Micro Computer Inc. to introduce new technologies that will increase efficiency and lower costs.

“We are thrilled to be in close collaboration with Supermicro in establishing the first cutting-edge, AI-ready data centers in the country,” Dennis Anthony Uy, the CEO and co-founder of Converge, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Big picture

Converge, one of the country’s biggest fiber internet providers with a nationwide footprint, has been deploying resources to diversify outside its core broadband business.

One related sector is data centers, driven by the increasing demand for internet applications and the arrival of new international internet cables in the Philippines.

Uy previously announced that the company will begin construction on three new data centers this year, located in Pampanga, Laguna, and Caloocan.

All three data centers will support AI applications being conceived under this partnership with Supermicro.

For example, Converge identified applications such as National Large Language Model, Smart Manufacturing for Industry 4.0, Deep Learning/Machine Learning, and Video Generation.

It also plans to integrate Supermicro’s liquid cooling solutions into its servers to significantly reduce power consumption, lower data center costs, and minimize environmental impact.

“Aside from being energy-saving with its liquid cooling technology, Supermicro’s servers provide exceptional AI computing capabilities and intensive deep learning tasks that will allow us to support and deploy many AI applications,” said Uy, a self-described technology enthusiast.
