Insider Spotlight
The infrastructure project, backed by a recently signed memorandum of agreement, is positioned to meet the rising energy demand driven by global and local manufacturers expanding in the province.
Why it matters
AIE, a 63-hectare Peza-accredited zone, has emerged as one of Mindanao’s most active industrial nodes, attracting investors in manufacturing, agribusiness, food processing, and logistics.
The new 43 MVA substation is designed to support that momentum, ensuring stable, scalable power for locators.
“As more global companies invest and expand within AIE, ensuring reliable and cost-efficient power becomes essential,” Ricardo Lagdameo, president of Damosa Land Inc, said in a press release on Dec. 2, 2025.
“This substation is a strategic infrastructure investment that strengthens our competitive edge and supports the long-term viability of industrial operations.”
State-of-the-art capacity
Construction will proceed in phases, with the initial 10 MVA becoming operational by June 2026 and the remaining 33 MVA by December 2027.
The facility will directly support major locators such as HEAD Sport Philippines, GMAC Logitech Refrigeration Corp., and Thai Coconut Public Co. Ltd.
“The San Pedro Substation is engineered to ensure uninterrupted power supply for both current and future load growth within the estate,” said Arnel D. Bersabe, senior assistant vice president for Panabo and Davao del Norte at Davao Light.
The big picture
The substation—DLPC’s sixth digital facility—will feature advanced automation, modern protection systems, a solar PV-powered control room, and a rainwater catchment system.
Beyond AIE, it is expected to enhance grid reliability for surrounding communities and provide support to nearby substations during emergency load conditions.
What’s next
The project forms part of a broader expansion strategy as AIE prepares for more industrial entrants and job-generating investments.
“Looking ahead to 2026, we are planning targeted initiatives to enhance the AIE’s infrastructure and support our locators’ growth,” Lagdameo added.
“This substation is just the first of several strategic projects aimed at ensuring that AIE remains a world-class industrial hub.” —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
