Meralco boosts power reliability with Calamba substation upgrade

Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has completed the upgrade of its Calamba 230 kilovolt (kV)–115 kV Delivery Point Substation, reinforcing the reliability and stability of electricity service across parts of Laguna and Batangas.

The project included the installation of a third 300 megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer, along with new 115 kV and 230 kV Gas Circuit Breakers, and upgraded protection and control panels.

Supporting growth in Southern Luzon

Meralco, in a statement, said the upgraded substation will address the rising power demand of key industrial and commercial customers such as SM City Calamba, SM City Sto. Tomas, Mariwasa-Siam Ceramics Inc., Calamba Doctor’s Hospital, Philippine Manufacturing Co. of MURATA Inc., STMicroelectronics Inc., and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp. 

The improvements also benefit neighboring communities, ensuring a more stable and resilient power supply.

“As part of our commitment to deliver high-quality, stable, and reliable service, Meralco continues to invest in upgrading and modernizing its electricity distribution system,” the company said in a statement.
