Thompson returns to the Philippines after more than five years as managing director of FedEx Indonesia, bringing nearly two decades of experience at the global express transportation company.
As managing director, he will focus on improving operations and customer experience while helping Philippine businesses expand their reach in international markets.
Regional role
Thompson will also oversee the FedEx Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center, which handles customs clearance, trade compliance and critical cargo documentation across Asia Pacific, the United States, Canada and Europe.
His appointment comes as FedEx continues to invest in its Philippine operations, including the expansion of its facility in Clark.
The Clark facility serves as a key transshipment gateway for FedEx, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting the company's broader growth strategy in Southeast Asia.
FedEx has operated in the Philippines for more than 40 years and connects businesses in the country to customers and markets across more than 220 countries and territories through its transportation and logistics network.
FedEx veteran
Thompson brings extensive experience spanning operations, sales and human resources to his new role.
He joined FedEx in New Zealand in 2007 and has since held several leadership positions across different functions and markets.
His new assignment also marks a return to a familiar market. Thompson previously served as senior sales manager for FedEx Philippines, where the company credited him with driving significant revenue growth and expanding its customer base.
He later moved to Indonesia, where he spent more than five years leading FedEx operations in the country before returning to the Philippines as managing director.
Thompson holds a bachelor's degree in management studies, majoring in strategic management and human resources, from the University of Waikato in New Zealand.
He is also a recipient of the FedEx Five Star Award, the company's highest employee recognition, which honors exceptional leadership, business impact and commitment to teamwork.
Trade growth
Thompson takes the helm as Philippine businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, increasingly look to cross-border markets for growth opportunities.
The expansion of e-commerce has also increased demand for logistics networks that can move shipments efficiently across markets while navigating customs requirements and other international trade regulations.
FedEx said its Philippine operations are positioned to support businesses of different sizes seeking access to customers overseas.
The company's continued investment in Clark is expected to strengthen that role by improving connectivity between the Philippines and other markets in the region.
Under Thompson, FedEx Philippines will focus on operational excellence and customer experience alongside its efforts to help local companies expand through cross-border trade.
His oversight of the Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center also gives the Philippine managing director a broader regional responsibility involving customs and trade compliance across several major markets. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
