SM Hotels strengthens leadership with Melissa Carlos appointment

SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) has appointed Melissa J. Carlos as vice president for commercial, bolstering its executive leadership as the hospitality arm of SM Prime Holdings continues to expand its portfolio and strengthen its presence in the Philippine tourism industry.

Carlos joins SMHCC with more than 30 years of experience in hospitality, having led business strategy, revenue optimization, brand development, and hotel operations across several of the country's major hotel groups. 

In her new role, she will oversee sales, marketing, revenue management, reservations,public relations, digital marketing, brand communications, and business development initiatives across the company's hotels, convention centers, and pipeline projects.

The big picture

Before joining SMHCC, Carlos served as Robinsons Hotels & Resorts group director of Sales and Marketing, where she supervised sales and events, revenue and reservations, and marketing and public relations while helping drive business growth and pre-opening strategies for new properties.

She also spent more than a decade with Seda Hotels, culminating as senior group director of commercial and revenue Management after serving as group director of sales and marketing. 

During her tenure, she led the launch of 12 Seda hotels nationwide and managed forecasting, budgeting, and revenue initiatives across the portfolio. Earlier in her career, she held leadership positions at Fraser Place Manila and The Heritage Hotel Manila.

Why it matters

SMHCC, the hospitality arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc., currently operates 10 hotel properties with more than 2,600 rooms alongside over 42,000 square meters of convention space.
