Santos previously served as Own Bank’s chief risk officer, helping strengthen its governance and risk management framework. His more than 27 years of leadership experience spans banking, fintech, telecommunications, regulatory compliance and digital transformation.
Why it matters
The leadership change comes as Own Bank seeks to broaden access to secure, technology-driven financial services while building trust among its expanding customer base.
Before joining Own Bank, Santos held senior leadership roles at Globe Telecom, including assignments supporting GCash, where he worked on governance, enterprise risk management and financial innovation. Earlier in his career, he also held leadership positions at Metrobank.
What he’s saying
"I am honored to lead Own Bank at this important stage of its journey. Together with our employees, partners, and stakeholders, we will continue building a bank that is trusted, customer-centered, and committed to responsible innovation” Own Bank president and CEO Don Niño Santos said in a statement.
“Our focus is not only on growth, but on creating meaningful value for our customers while upholding the highest standards of governance, integrity, and service," he said.
Under Santos, Own Bank plans to enhance its digital banking capabilities and expand financial access for underserved Filipinos, including MSMEs and OFW families. It also intends to invest in secure technologies that improve customer experience.
What’s next
The bank said it aims to use emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to deliver smarter, more personalized and efficient financial services while maintaining strong governance, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.
"Mr. Santos' appointment reflects the Board's confidence in his leadership, integrity, and extensive experience in banking, fintech, and digital transformation. We are confident that under his leadership, Own Bank will continue to strengthen its commitment to innovation, customer trust, and sustainable growth while advancing financial inclusion for more Filipinos.” Own Bank board chair Mary Cheung said.
