One of the country’s largest developers is entering Cebu’s booming property sector via a residential complex that is expected to cost around P20 billion.

DMCI Homes, part of the Consunji family conglomerate DMCI Holdings, said their debut project will be a resort-inspired condominium project in a four-hectare property in Barangay Guadalupe.

“Cebu City’s robust economy and growing demand for quality homes make it an ideal location for our expansion,” said Dennis Yap, DMCI vice president for project development.

“The Queen City of the South deserves nothing but the best, and we’re about to deliver just that—our project with the biggest open space to date,” he added.

Big picture

DMCI is facing stiff competition as major developers have a head start in Cebu City’s booming real estate sector.

Yap said  they are prepared to compete with their “value-for-money offerings.”

Plans delayed by the pandemic

DMCI’s plans to enter Cebu were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The builder acknowledges that expanding into provincial locations could  drive future growth, following “successful ventures in San Juan, Batangas, and Tuba, Benguet for the past year”.

“Cebu is a rapidly growing market with great potential,” Yap said. “We look forward to making a positive impact and contributing to the city’s growth.”

DMCI’s construction footprint in Cebu

DMCI was part of the Cebu Link Joint Venture, a consortium with Acciona and First Balfour, responsible for constructing the iconic Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

Other notable landmarks built by DMCI in Cebu include SM Cebu, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, the Ayala Life Cebu office building, and Ayala Center Cebu.
