BPI champions cybersecurity with landmark government training, certification program

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and USAID's Better Access and Connectivity (Beacon)  launched a groundbreaking Cybersecurity Training and Certification Program.

As a key part of the initiative, BPI sponsored a five-day CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) cybersecurity certification training for 17 employees from various government agencies.

This makes BPI the first private institution to partner with the DICT and USAID-Beacon to host a full-scale, in-person cybersecurity certification program.

The program aligns closely with the government’s National Cybersecurity Plan 2023-2028, which aims to bolster the cybersecurity expertise of public sector professionals. By increasing the number of certified cybersecurity professionals, this initiative underscores BPI’s commitment to nation-building through technology and digital resilience.

This initiative also supports Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CSAM) 2024, championing DICT’s theme, “Cyber Tiwala, Cyber Handa, Cyber Tatag,” which highlights the need for strong cross-sector partnerships to combat the rising threat of cyberattacks.

“Through collaborations like this, we aim to create a secure and thriving future for the Philippines,” said Jonathan John Paz, BPI enterprise information security and data protection officer. “We thank the DICT and USAID-BEACON for being our allies in advancing cybersecurity initiatives that will benefit the entire nation.”

BPI continues to lead efforts in building a safer digital environment, working alongside government agencies and organizations to strengthen the country’s cyber defense.
