Smart leads the charge with push to fight cyber threats

Smart Communications is ramping up efforts to protect Filipino consumers from rising cyber threats, emphasizing the need for real-time intelligence sharing among industry players.

At a recent forum led by the Anti-Red Tape Authority, Smart vice president and head of regulatory affairs Roy Ibay underscored the urgency of collaborating with regulators, mobile operators, and independent tower companies to combat phishing, scam links, and AI-driven cyberattacks.

He also detailed major vulnerabilities, including risks from emerging technologies, IoT security gaps, and ransomware, stressing that continuous adaptation is critical to safeguarding user data.

The event also launched a primer on Executive Order No. 32, which streamlines telco infrastructure permits, a move that Ibay said will help accelerate network expansion and improve connectivity.

Smart and PLDT have long advocated for faster permitting processes and improved digital access in underserved areas, in step with national efforts to close connectivity gaps.
