Insider Spotlight
Rather than simply serving as transport for diplomats, the summit fleet effectively acts as a rolling showcase of BMW’s premium lineup in the Philippines, spanning armored executive sedans, plug-in hybrid SUVs, and fully electric vehicles.
Leading the fleet are 25 units of the BMW 760i Protection, the company’s flagship armored sedan reserved for heads of state attending the regional gathering. The vehicle combines ballistic and blast protection with the luxury features expected from BMW’s top-tier 7 Series lineup.
The deployment places unusual attention on a niche but growing segment of the Philippine automotive market: high-security luxury mobility for executives, diplomats, and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
The big picture
BMW is also fielding 70 units of the BMW X3 30e xDrive, a plug-in hybrid Sports Activity Vehicle already available locally as part of the brand’s expanding electrified portfolio. The model blends electric driving capability with combustion-engine range, making it one of BMW’s transitional offerings for buyers not yet ready to go fully electric.
Meanwhile, 30 units of the fully electric BMW i5 eDrive40 continue to support summit operations after being deployed earlier this year. The executive EV sedan represents BMW’s latest effort to strengthen its foothold in the Philippine luxury EV segment, where competition has intensified amid growing consumer interest in premium electric vehicles.
The ASEAN summit partnership gives BMW a rare high-visibility platform to demonstrate the reliability and practicality of electrified mobility under demanding operational conditions.
Why it matters
Luxury automakers in the Philippines are increasingly leaning on electrification to drive growth as affluent buyers look for newer technology, sustainability credentials, and coding exemptions tied to EV ownership.
For BMW Philippines, the summit arrangement reinforces its “Future Forward” strategy while positioning its electrified lineup alongside one of the region’s most high-profile diplomatic events. The company said technical teams will provide 24/7 support to maintain uninterrupted fleet operations throughout the summit. —Daxim L. Lucas | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
