ABS-CBN, GMA eye financial boost from "Hello, Love, Goodbye" sequel

Sequel “Hello, Love, Again” will be shot in Canada.

The Lopez family of ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network are joining forces anew to launch the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster hit "Hello, Love, Goodbye.”

InsiderPH sources said the new production, “Hello, Love, Again”, will be released on theaters on Nov. 13, 2024.

It follows the story of star-crossed lovers Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) and Ethan (Alden Richards), who met in Hong Kong and fell in love before choosing to go their separate ways.

The sequel, which will be shot in Canada, picks up where the original story left off.

The movie will be directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, who helmed the Hello, Love, Goodbye.

Big picture

The sequel to one of the most successful Filipino movies of all time underscores the deepening relationship between GMA and ABS-CBN, which shifted its business model to content creation after allies of President Duterte killed the company’s broadcast franchise renewal in 2020.

ABS-CBN president and CEO Carlo L. Katigbak previously said quality television shows and movies will help drive the company’s efforts to recover financially.

Blockbuster windfall

The original Hello, Love, Goodbye broke sales records in 2019 when it reached global revenues of P880 million.

It was toppled four years later with the P922 million haul of Rewind, also co-produced by ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema.

During the first quarter of 2024, ABS-CBN saw losses narrow 18 percent to P994 million.

Part of the reason was a 10 percent revenue jump in content production to P2.6 billion. ABS-CBN attributed the increase to “the strong performance of the movie releases and digital subscription”.

Formal announcement

InsiderPH learned the formal sequel announcement will be made on May 19. The event will be led by key officers of ABS-CBN and GMA, including Katigbak and GMA Films president and CEO Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes.

Other key executives that are expected to attend are ABS-CBN chief operating officer Cory Vidanes and ABS-CBN Film Productions head Kriz Gazmen.
