Insider Spotlight
The campaign comes as anticipated releases including Disney's live-action Moana, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are expected to drive cinema traffic.
Rather than focusing solely on upcoming films, SM Cinema is encouraging moviegoers to match each title with a theater format suited to their viewing preferences.
Why it matters
Different premium cinema formats have become an increasingly important differentiator for exhibitors seeking to attract audiences back to theaters through enhanced viewing experiences beyond standard screenings.
By the numbers
SM Cinema said it operates more than 389 screens across over 79 branches nationwide, offering multiple viewing formats across its network.
The company said its IMAX theaters are designed for audiences seeking expansive screens, enhanced visuals, and high-quality sound. These are available at SM Aura, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, SM City Clark, SM Lanang, and SM City Cebu.
SCREENX, available at SM Mall of Asia, extends images onto synchronized side walls to create a three-wall viewing environment, while Directors Club combines Dolby Atmos audio, laser projection, and leather recliner seating for a premium experience at select branches nationwide.
The bottom line
Beyond traditional screenings, SM Cinema also offers Event Screen venues for private screenings and special gatherings at selected locations, while its Regular Cinema format remains available across all branches.
The broader strategy reflects how exhibitors are using varied formats and amenities to address evolving consumer preferences and reinforce the value of the theatrical experience. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
