In a statement, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said a wage order issued on June 27, 2024 raised the daily minimum wage by P35 from P610 to P645 for the non-agriculture sector and from P573 to P608 for the agriculture sector, service and retail establishments with 15 or fewer workers, as well as manufacturing establishments with fewer than 10 workers.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission reviewed and affirmed the order on June 28, 2024, and it will take effect on July 17, 2024. This wage adjustment is in response to rising prices of basic goods and petitions from labor groups, DOLE said.
A total of 988,243 minimum wage earners will benefit directly, while around 1.7 million full-time workers earning above the minimum wage may see indirect benefits through adjustments in wage scales.
The new wage rates also increase wage-related benefits, including 13th month pay and social security contributions.
The wage board will conduct information campaigns to ensure compliance with the new order, DOLE said, adding that exemptions may apply for small retail/service establishments and those affected by calamities.
The last wage adjustment was implemented on July 16, 2023.
