Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Wick Veloso unveiled on Wednesday a pipeline of initiatives designed to expand support for government employees and pensioners.
Speaking at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay News Forum, Veloso — back at the helm after the Ombudsman lifted his preventive suspension on Sept. 17 — emphasized the fund’s robust standing.
“GSIS is strong and continues to grow. Our focus is not on the past but on building a future where members and pensioners feel the full value of their contributions. We are committed to completing what we have started,” he said.
GSIS assets climbed from P1.54 trillion in 2022 to P1.88 trillion this year, with 73 percent invested in safe, risk-free instruments.

Pipeline of initiatives
Veloso outlined several projects aimed at strengthening GSIS’s value to its 2.1 million active members and nearly 600,000 pensioners. These include:
Dividend policy review to better respond to member concerns.
Housing project at Manila North Harbor, in partnership with former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, to convert idle GSIS property into livable communities.
Affordable medicines program, a potential tie-up with the Department of Health, PhilHealth, UP–PGH, and Philippine Pharmaceutical Corporation, to benefit government workers and retirees.
UP–PGH lodging and commercial facilities, providing support for government doctors.
Transportation hub initiative with the Department of Transportation, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive, to help ease congestion and improve commuter mobility.
Expanded promotion of the Lease With Option to Buy (LWOB) program, giving more members access to affordable housing.
Commitment to members
Veloso stressed that every peso entrusted to GSIS is carefully managed and reinvested in benefits that matter—pensions, loans, housing, and healthcare.
