GSIS opens emergency loan facility in four calamity-hit areas in Luzon

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has launched its emergency loan facility for members and pensioners in four areas declared under a state of calamity: Cavite, Quezon City, Umingan in Pangasinan, and Calumpit in Bulacan.

The initiative provides urgent financial aid to those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat).

GSIS Officer-in-Charge Juliet M. Bautista said the loan program is part of the agency’s swift response to assist government workers and retirees in disaster-hit locations.

Loan amount, terms, and application period

Applications are now open and will run until Aug. 23, 2025 for residents of Umingan and Calumpit, and Oct. 23, 2025 for Cavite and Quezon City.

Under the program, eligible members with existing emergency loans may borrow up to P40,000, while first-time borrowers may avail themselves of P20,000, repayable over three years at a competitive 6 percent annual interest with no processing fee.

To qualify, active members must be residing or working in the declared calamity zones, be in active service (not on unpaid leave), have no pending legal or administrative case, and have paid at least six monthly premium contributions. They must also maintain a minimum net take-home pay of P5,000.

Pensioner access and easy application options

Old-age and disability pensioners are also eligible, provided that their net monthly pension after loan deductions remains at 25 percent of their gross pension.

Members are urged to use the GSIS Touch mobile app for convenient processing. Non-app users can still apply via GWAPS kiosks or over the counter in GSIS branches and partner government offices.

GSIS said more areas may be added as local government units submit calamity declarations in the coming days. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
