Metro Pacific Tollways steps up campaign against risky driving behaviors

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) is widening its road safety push as traffic violations and driver behavior remain key risks across the country’s growing expressway network.

The toll road operator, part of tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp., brought together 284 jeepney, UV Express and bus drivers from 42 transport groups and companies for its Mission Road Safety BiyaHero Caravan, a training program designed to improve driving practices and reduce road crashes.

Road safety remains operational priority

Held in Makati and Caloocan, the initiative focused on common violations such as speeding, distracted driving, unsafe overtaking and improper lane use, issues that continue to contribute to crashes on Philippine roads.

For MPTC, safer roads are not just a public service goal but also a key operational priority as it expands and manages major tollways including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

Drivers trained on high-risk violations

Drivers participated in learning sessions, driving simulations and road safety exercises, while also receiving free eye screenings and prescription eyeglasses.

The program was conducted with the Toll Regulatory Board, Department of Health, local government units and transport sector stakeholders, underscoring the industry’s push for a broader approach to road safety.
