Effective Jan. 15, 2025, the speed limit on NAIAx will rise from 60 kilometers per hour (kph) to 80 kph. Similar adjustments will be implemented on straight sections of Skyway Stage 3 starting Jan. 20, 2025.
San Miguel Corp. chair and CEO Ramon Ang emphasized that the changes are based on a comprehensive traffic safety study.
“This change will make travel on NAIAx and Skyway Stage 3 faster and more efficient for everyone,” Ang said. “We have carefully studied this to make sure that it benefits motorists while prioritizing safety.”
To address potential congestion issues, Ang noted that reconfiguration of exit plazas at NAIAx is ongoing
“This should allow for less congestion and help improve motorists’ experience on the expressway,” he added.
However, the 60-kph speed limit will remain enforced on curved sections of both expressways to ensure safety.
“This is to maintain safety, as we do not want to put any motorists at risk of accidents due to miscalculation or oversteering, especially where there are sharp curves,” Ang explained. He cited space limitations during construction as the reason for these sharp curves.
To enforce compliance, San Miguel’s traffic patrollers, deputized by the Land Transportation Office, will monitor speed limits with radar guns. Violators will face penalties, including license confiscation and issuance of temporary operator’s permits.
Ang appealed to motorists to adhere to speed limits for everyone’s safety.
NAIAx connects the Skyway System to NAIA terminals and major destinations like Entertainment City and Cavite. Skyway Stage 3 spans 18 kilometers, linking Balintawak, Quezon City, and NLEX to the Skyway System in Makati and the South Luzon Expressway in Alabang, providing alternative routes to Manila, San Juan, and Caloocan.
