The newly opened pumping station will increase water production by 3 million liters per day, further supporting MDW’s commitment to delivering stable, reliable, and improved water service.
More than just supplemental supply, the added output from Pumping Station 22 will help fortify the entire distribution network—enhancing water pressure, reducing service interruptions, and strengthening system resiliency in key areas.
Access to safe, stable water supply
For communities previously experiencing fluctuations, this milestone brings a measurable improvement in daily access to safe and consistent water.
The additional output is expected to directly benefit around 3,000 households, or more than 12,000 Dumagueteños, by reinforcing system capacity and improving service consistency across several distribution zones.
“Every Metro Dumaguete Water project supports the company’s goal of ensuring that Dumagueteños receive safe and quality water,” said Engr. Robert R. Cabiles, chief operating officer.
“By augmenting sources, we are assuring our consumers that their taps have reliable water supply for their everyday needs.”
Pipeline installations, network upgrades completed
Alongside the inauguration of Pumping Station 22, MDW also highlighted several milestone projects completed in 2025.
These include the installation of approximately 2,000 meters of new transmission pipelines, enabling efficient conveyance of water from the pumping station to the broader distribution network.
MDW likewise completed significant upgrades to its distribution system. Among these is the augmentation of pipelines in Yhalason, Mangnao, an area that previously experienced low water pressure.
Another critical project is the construction of an underground pipeline crossing the Banica River in Barangay Batinguel, improving water pressure, enhancing supply sustainability, and strengthening resiliency in an area once vulnerable during heavy rains.
“We approach our operations holistically, and the milestone projects inaugurated today encapsulate this,” Cabiles added. “This means that while we produce more water from our groundwater sources, we also ensure that the water produced would reach our consumers’ taps.”
Joint venture for better water services
Metro Dumaguete Water is the joint venture of the Dumaguete City Water District and Metro Pacific Water, a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Investment Corp.
The company began operating the city’s water system in February 2021 and continues to invest in infrastructure aimed at improving water access and service reliability for all Dumagueteños. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
