This growth was driven by increased demand from China and local markets.

SMPC president Maria Cristina C. Gotianun highlighted the company’s maximum coal production under its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the third straight year, emphasizing their commitment to meeting energy demands.

2025 outlook

“While we anticipate market prices to further normalize in 2025, we remain focused on strengthening our customer network and enhancing operational efficiencies to effectively support national energy security and meet the growing demand from the industrial and cement sectors,” Gotianun said.

Meanwhile, SMPC said foreign shipments rose 4 percent to 8.4 million MT, with exports to China jumping 46 percent to 7.6 million MT, while domestic shipments also grew 4 percent to 8.0 million MT, partly due to sales to cement producers like Cemex Holdings Philippines Inc.
