BCDA eyes tie-ups with Korean firms for New Clark City, Poro Point projects

Two prominent South Korean companies have expressed keen interest in collaborating with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to pursue high-impact projects in the Philippines, particularly in New Clark City, Tarlac, and the Poro Point Freeport Zone in La Union, the BCDA said.

BCDA President and CEO Engr. Joshua M. Bingcang and officer-in-charge SVP Mark P. Torres recently met with representatives from Moon Engineering Co. Ltd. and Jin Systems Co. Ltd. to explore potential partnerships that could advance infrastructure and smart city initiatives in the country.

Moon Engineering, an engineering and consulting firm, discussed conducting a feasibility study for the upgrade of San Fernando Airport. Currently, the airport—managed by Poro Point Management Corp.—has limited capacity and primarily caters to chartered flights and flying schools.

The proposed upgrade aims to increase its capacity to accommodate commercial flights, transforming it into a vital transport hub for Northern Luzon and unlocking new economic opportunities in La Union and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Jin Systems expressed interest in partnering with the BCDA on the 2025 K-City Network Smart Solution Demonstration Project, which involves deploying and testing smart mobility solutions in New Clark City.

This initiative supports BCDA’s long-term vision of developing New Clark City into a smart, sustainable, and future-ready metropolis, with efficient mass transport systems that enhance the quality of life for investors, workers, and residents alike.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with South Korean firms, as they are recognized as leaders in infrastructure and smart city development," said Bingcang. "These potential partnerships will play a pivotal role in advancing infrastructure and integrating cutting-edge technologies in New Clark City and Poro Point." — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
