Under the agreement, Emerging Power’s units—Jobin SQM Inc. (JSI) and Northern Palawan Power Generation Corp.—will deliver power output from two solar projects: the operational 72.128-megawatt peak (MWp) Subic New PV Power Plant and the 70-MWp Cawag Solar Power Plant currently under development.
JSI owns and operates the Subic facility while spearheading the development of the Cawag project, both located in Subic, Zambales. These projects form part of Emerging Power’s broader strategy to grow its renewable energy portfolio across the country and help meet the national goal of increasing the share of renewables in the Philippines’ energy mix.
“We are honored to have been chosen by Mabuhay Energy as a partner in expanding their business of delivering clean and sustainable energy to their RES customers,” said Emerging Power president and CEO Roy Joseph Fernandez. “Through our expanding solar portfolio, which includes the Subic and Cawag power plants, we steadfastly aim to contribute to the Philippines’ renewable energy goals which should help enhance the country’s energy security in the near term.”
Mabuhay Energy, a retail electricity supplier regulated by the Energy Regulatory Commission, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Aviva Group of Companies. Operational since 2017, the company provides customized energy solutions and has been growing its customer base through partnerships that promote clean and reliable energy sources.
Emerging Power said its partnership with Mabuhay Energy reflects its continuing role in the transition to renewable energy. The agreement is aligned with its parent firm Nickel Asia’s strategy to diversify its resource portfolio, which now includes solar, wind, and geothermal projects at various development stages.
The deal comes as the Philippine government encourages greater use of clean energy through policies supporting the expansion of renewable energy capacities.
