Megaworld announces new cultural landmark in Cebu

Tycoon Andrew Tan’s Megaworld Corp. is starting construction of its P1.2 billion Mactan World Museum within the 30-hectare Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City. Opening is slated within three years.

The museum, positioned to showcase the history and cultural exchanges with Spain, which colonized and ruled the Philippines for over three centuries.

The project will also feature extensive collections and interactive exhibits curated by Dannie Alvarez.

Situated strategically in front of the 8 Newtown Boulevard condominiums, the museum aims to offer a deep dive into historical events like the Battle of Mactan and the Manila Galleon trade.

“Being at the center of The Mactan Newtown, this museum will provide locals and tourists with a creative avenue to connect, share interests as a community, expand knowledge, and form a deeper appreciation not only for Mactan but also for our nation’s history,” Graham M. Coates, head at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, said in a statement.
